A few years ago, Leanne experienced late-diagnosed postnatal mental health issues. Through that, she recognised the life-changing impact of empathy-based listening and communication, versus judgment and stigma.

An active member of the start-up, mental health and social enterprise communities, Leanne is founder of Empathy First, lectures Social Enterprise Business for the Queensland University of Technology and has presented her empathy work in Australia, Canada and the United States.

Leanne is mum to Rowan and Zara, loves beach volleyball, has a degree in Applied Science (UQ) and a Graduate Certificate in Business (Nonprofit and Philanthropy Studies - QUT). She received a George Alexander Foundation Scholarship, is a member of the Australian Social Impact Fellowship, showcased her work to His Royal Highness, the Duke of York and was recently awarded the Women Changing the World People’s Choice Social Enterprise Award.

Through her experience and research, Leanne believes empathetic leadership is not a nice-to-have but a business imperative.

Leanne recently ran a workshop for a primary school about how to strengthen parent teacher relationships with healthy empathy.
