Discussing Dr. Ross Greene's Collaborative & Proactive Solutions Model: Why do kids exhibit behaviors in the face of problems and frustrations? Why don't rewards & consequences get the job done? What should we do instead?
Important Message: The only thing that punishments teach students is what you did we didn't like...but they knew that before they did it. If punishments were going to work, they would have worked already. We need something else.
Key Takeaway: Unmet expectations/unsolved problems are highly predictable, so we can work proactively and collaboratively with students to solve them so they don't occur again...thereby extinguishing behavior.

Superintendent of Melissa Schools
kmurphy@melissaisd.org
Melissa Schools are in the top 3% of all Texas Public and accredited charter schools. Mr. Murphy has a track record of supporting the success of all students and understands the importance of keeping in tune with best practices and earning the hearts of everyone.
Some words of advice:
Have the courage to do the right thing, not the most popular thing.
Listen to your internal compass.
Lead with your heart.
Love, compassion, and then accountability.
Crave the success of others.
Tell the truth in a way that is not divisive.
Instill Hope...the promise that there are brighter days ahead.
I have been blessed to weather many storms and thrive in a very difficult chapter for many in leadership. I am always willing to help reflect on approaches to help leaders continuously improve. I love working with educational leadership teams and have even served as an inspiration speaker on several occasions. Please feel free to reach our to me if you feel I can help.
I love the Imagery of the Blacksmith. As leaders, we must learn to acknowledge and accept our juxtaposition between being the Master Blacksmith, the unshaped material in the fire, or the scrapes on the floor of the Blacksmith's shop. Credit to Max Lucado and hid poem/book, On the Anvil

Laura is a licensed clinical counselor with over 20 years in the field. She specializes in the treatment of trauma, anxiety, suicidal thinking, and self-harming. After years of working with some amazing clients who struggle with self-harm, she has developed a passion for getting accurate information and resources about self-harming into the hands of people who can support them. In addition to her clinical practice, Laura is also the owner and creator of Navigating a Stressful World, an online resource for people struggling with stress, anxiety, or self-harming, and therapists who work with these symptoms. - And she has some great free resources to share with our listeners later today.
